Today’s legal workplace can be a minefield
of tricky gender issues. Despite substantial strides in recent
years, the legal profession still struggles with persistent male/female
stereotypes relating to competence, ambition, sexuality, personal
style, leadership, work schedules, and parenting.
Led by employment lawyer and writer Holly English, our webcast
will draw on the hundreds of anecdotes in English's acclaimed
book -- Gender on Trial: Sexual Stereotypes and Work/Life Balance
in the Legal Workplace -- to identify today’s most problematic
gender issues confronting law firms and solutions for addressing
them.

During this
60-minute idea-packed seminar, you'll learn about: |
- The 7 rules of smart "gender" politics
- How individual attorneys can serve as change agents at their
firms to help colleagues, change policy, and make a difference
- How women who are working flexible or reduced hours can avoid
being marginalized
- How men who want better work/life balance can find time to see
their families without hurting their professional standing
- How women can assert themselves and "be the boss"
without eliciting hostile reactions
- Leveraging the common ground between men and women to find solutions
to pressing gender issues
- Instituting programs and policies on a firm-wide level that
address problems, instead of just being window dressing
- And much more. . . . . .

Testimonials
"Gender on Trial is a welcome addition to the literature
on women lawyers. Holly English effectively combines material
from her extensive interviews with both women and men throughout
the profession with an impressive array of data from a wide
range of disciplines to effectively illuminate the complex
stereotypes that continue to define women's advancement in
the workplace. The book is destined to be an important resource
for law students, practitioners, and scholars." Prof.
David Wilkins, Kirkland and Ellis Professor of Law and Director
of the Program on the Legal Profession, Harvard Law School
"English's book is a significant contribution to the literature
on gender-role stereotypes in the workplace and just what's
needed to help empower women - and the profession - to work
toward gender equity. With all the benefits this book offers,
I'll be encouraging all of my coaching clients to read it."
Ellen Ostrow, psychologist and career coach for lawyers
