Prior to discussing technology in powered toothbrushes, Id like to refer those interested in cardiovascular disease as it relates to women in America (some sobering statistics) to the Time Magazine article of April 28, 2003.

Back to periodontal health: I need to preface this report with the reality that manufacturers have an influence on most research studies released and we may never know the truth!! Be that as it may, according to Dr. Sam Yankell in Dental Products Report, Apr.2003 subjects using powered toothbrushes in these studies achieved significantly superior results over manual brushing.

Keeping this in mind Sonicare has just released a new version of its electric brush, called the Elite. According to independent research compiled by the American Journal of Dentistry, Nov. 2002 this brush disrupts plaque up to 15mm beyond the bristle tips! The Elite removed significantly more plaque than the Braun Oral-B 3D Excel powered brush which is regarded as an excellent adjunct to good oral hygiene. It is four (4) times gentler to teeth than other leading power brushes. It is 30% smaller and lighter than its predecessor. There is a two-speed setting along with a two phased timer to ensure optimal brushing time. There are additional bells and whistles on this brush but regardless whatever system utilized be consistent and use it properly.
